Five people were hospitalized in a Monday crash in Starr County caused by a United States Border Patrol unit that failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The two-vehicle crash happened at around 2:46 p.m. on US 83 west of FM 2360 by Border Patrol Lane near La Grulla.

“A United States Border Patrol patrol unit was traveling eastbound in the crossover median to proceed westbound on US 83. It failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign and collided with a Chevrolet Traverse occupied by a driver and three children,” DPS said in a news release.

The Border Patrol agent and all occupants of the Chevrolet Traverse were hospitalized. 

DPS is investigating the crash.

Channel 5 News reached out to Border Patrol for comment on the crash.
