A 48-year-old Edinburg woman was arrested in connection with the overdose death of a man, according to the McAllen Police Department.

Vanessa Denise Rico was arrested on Wednesday and arraigned the following day on charges of manufacturing/delivering a controlled substance causing serious bodily injury or death and delivering cocaine.

According to a news release, the investigation began on April 10, 2026, when McAllen police officers responded to a report of an unresponsive 39-year-old man at the 1600 block of Dove Avenue.

“A forensic examination determined death was caused by recent drug use,” the news release said. “Investigators of the McAllen Police Department identified Vanessa Denise Rico as the source of the controlled substance.”

While executing a search warrant at Rico’s home, 1.85 grams of cocaine, along with packaging equipment, were seized.

Rico is now being held at the Hidalgo County jail in lieu of bond, police added.
