Harlingen, TX (KRGV) — The city is installing traffic counters on West Fillmore Avenue to decide whether the street needs a speed hump after residents raised concerns.

The counters will show how many drivers use the street and how fast they travel. City leaders will use that information to decide.

“So what we've seen around, within four weeks, you already have the counters, and the reviews, and potentially within the following week, installation of those speed humps,” Harlingen City Engineer Roberto Fernandez said.

Crews will track traffic for 48 hours. If more than 15% of drivers speed, engineers will recommend a speed hump.
