Hidalgo County voters encouraged to try other polling sites to avoid longer lines
Hidalgo County, TX (KRGV) — The Hidalgo County Election Department says early voting starts Oct. 19 and Election Day is set for Nov. 3.
Hidalgo County says more than 1,500 people registered to vote on the final day of registration. The county also expects more people to cast ballots and that could mean longer lines.
Hidalgo County Election Administrator Hilda Salinas said voters can help avoid long lines by considering other polling locations. She said the Annex building and Lark are the most popular sites out of 69 polling locations across the county.
"By law our office cannot release the results until all polling locations have closed so just be patient all these voters are in line waiting to cast their ballot," Hidalgo County Election Administrator Hilda Salinas said.
McAllen resident Linda Scalise said she plans to vote during early voting.
"That’s going to be the first thing I do in the morning: get up, drink the coffee and go vote," McAllen resident Linda Scalise said.
Scalise said waiting for results can make her feel anxious at times.
"My experience for waiting is just that nervousness you know. You want your candidate to win you believe in their views so that’s it," Scalise said.
Scalise also said it is important for election workers to take their time and make sure every ballot is counted.
"I think it is very important that they do take their time that they do get everybody’s vote cast," Scalise said.
