BROWNSVILLE – Several cities in Cameron County will soon be connected, but there are no roads involved.

A new historic and ambitious plan will allow Rio Grande Valley runners and cyclists a straight shot from Brownsville to Los Fresnos, connecting 11 cities.

The 425 miles of trails will be a countywide effort to inspire healthy living for residents.

Rolando Garza, an archeologist and resource manager at Palo Alto Battlefield, says a part of the project is about preserving the history of the battlefield.

The first phase will take about a year to complete.
