A 48-year-old woman died after she and her husband were found with gunshot wounds to the head in the backyard of a home near Mission, according to Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra.

A Thursday morning news release from the sheriff's office said Patricia Beltran was murdered by her husband, 53-year-old Noe Garcia, who then shot himself.

The couple was hospitalized Wednesday night in critical condition after they were found at around 7:15 p.m. by deputies conducting a welfare check at a home on the 2500 block of Jessica Avenue near Mission.

The sheriff's office later confirmed that both Beltran and Garcia died at the hospital.  

“There’s no threat to the community. Investigation is ongoing,” Guerra added.
