La Joya ISD secures $10 million grant to expand afterschool programs at 10 schools
La Joya Independent School District has secured a grant worth up to $10 million to expand learning opportunities for students across 10 elementary campuses, according to the district.
The district received Cycle 13 of the Texas Afterschool Centers on Education grant, funded through the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers program. The grant provides $2 million annually for five years.
Texas ACE will bring no-cost afterschool and summer programming to students at the following campuses: Guillermo Flores Elementary, Elioda R. Chapa Elementary, N.G. Cavazos Elementary, Tabasco Elementary, Henry B. Gonzalez Elementary, Sam Fordyce Elementary, Juan N. Seguin Elementary, William J. Clinton Elementary, Evangelina Garza Elementary and Dr. Palmira Mendiola Elementary.
All 10 campuses are expected to start serving students on Sept. 1.
Texas ACE site coordinators will work with campus principals, teachers, counselors and other staff to identify students who can benefit most from additional academic support and enrichment opportunities.
Texas ACE will provide targeted academic support in reading and math, high-impact tutoring and instructional support, hands-on STEAM and enrichment activities, as well as family engagement workshops and educational activities.
