The PSJA Memorial Wolverines are heading into a new district this season with a young roster and something to prove.

After finishing 2-8 overall and 7 in district standings in their first year under Head Coach Omar Gonzalez, the Wolverines are now moving into District 16-5A. They'll face McAllen, Mission and Rio Grande City teams in the new district.

The team brings back 6 returners on offense and 6 returners on defense.

"I've seen them mature quite a bit but I think a lot of it has to do with us proving ourselves this year to a lot of people because there are a lot of people that are doubting this program and that's one thing I fed to the kids you have to find a way to prove people wrong," Head Coach Omar Gonzalez said.

Senior wide receiver Matthew Garza said the doubt only adds fuel.

"100% especially everybody doubting us. It makes me mad but at the end of the day we have the coaches support, parents support and we're going to show out," Garza said.

The Wolverines open the season against PSJA Southwest before non-district games against Pace and Edinburg.

District play kicks off in Week 4 against Palmview. The second half of the season starts against McAllen Memorial, followed by Rio Grande City, McAllen, Mission and a season finale against Nikki Rowe.
