A lockdown that lasted about 10 minutes was lifted at Cavazos Elementary School following a report of a man seen with a weapon near the campus, the district said.

According to an Edinburg CISD spokesperson, the campus located at 1501 W. Freddy Gonzalez Dr. went into lockdown shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday after “a subject was reportedly seen with a weapon near the campus, but off school property.”

The McAllen Police Department and Edinburg CISD Police Department responded to the area, investigated the report, and cleared the scene, the statement added. The school has resumed its regular schedule.

“All students and staff are safe and secure. Parents were promptly notified of the situation and provided updates as information became available,” the district said. “We appreciate the swift response and coordination of law enforcement and school personnel in helping ensure the safety of our students and staff.”
