UPDATE (2/11 8 p.m.): McAllen City Commissioners denied a respite center's one year permit to remain in the same location.

The deadline for Catholic Charities leaders to find a new respite center is in 90 days.

Catholic Charities has served as a place for migrants processed by Border Patrol to receive food, and bus passes to their next destination.

MCALLEN – Residents in McAllen are concerned about a decision on whether the respite center will stay in their neighborhood.

Commissioners are expected to vote on whether the respite center will be granted a permit to remain in the same location.

KRGV’s Christian Colón spoke with residents who live nearby and want it to be relocated.

“We are concerned for the other residents who live here for their safety. We have children and elderly people living alone. We just want it moved somewhere else,” explains resident Patricia Keating.

She says she’ll present her concerns at the commission meeting. She says she has a petition with 50 names.

Sister Norma Pimentel of Catholic Charities says some residents’ claims are untrue.
