McAllen, TX (KRGV) — A McAllen man received a life sentence without parole for a 2017 murder, a Hidalgo County jury decided.

Armando Adrian Arebalo, 37, was found guilty of killing Nicholas Anthony Bazan in McAllen on June 19, 2017. The trial took place in the 370 District Ct. under Judge Noe Gonzalez.

Bazan, 41, was found dead in the 1400 block of Vine Ave. in McAllen. Investigators determined he suffered a gunshot wound.

The McAllen Police Department arrested Arebalo and other individuals in connection with Bazan's death in August 2017.

"This verdict brings accountability for the death of Nicholas Anthony Bazan after more than nine years of waiting for justice. Nicholas' life was taken and his family has had to live with that loss every day since," Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney Toribio "Terry" Palacios said. "While no verdict can bring Nicholas back or erase the pain his family has endured, this sentence ensures that the defendant is held accountable and faces the consequences of his violent actions. Our office will continue to stand with victims and their families and pursue justice, no matter how much time has passed."

The Hidalgo County District Attorney's Office thanked the McAllen Police Department, investigators, prosecutors, courtroom advocates and jurors for their work on the case.
