McAllen is urging residents to take extra precautions as a heat advisory goes into effect for the Rio Grande Valley from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with heat index values expected to reach up to 115 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The city has opened several air-conditioned public facilities for residents looking to stay cool, according to a news release.

The McAllen Public Library at 4001 N. 23rd St. is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Lark Community Center at 2601 Lark Ave. is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is closed on Sundays.

The Las Palmas Community Center at 1921 N. 25th St. is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed Saturday and Sunday.

The Palm View Community Center at 3401 Jordan Rd. is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is closed on Sundays.

The news release said city officials will continue to monitor conditions and share updated information as needed.
