MERCEDES – A Mercedes neighborhood was evacuated Thursday evening due to a fire that spread into four mobile homes.

Several agencies responded to the fire at Llano Grande Lake Park Resort and Country Club.

Firefighters are working to prevent the fire from spreading to other homes, which mostly belong to Winter Texans.

Weslaco Fire Chief Antonio Lopez says they received the call at about 8 p.m. and crews are still trying to put out the fire two hours later.

“Our firefighters still actively fighting one of the homes. A lot of times, you get fires in the attic spaces. They have to go hunting for that fire,” says Lopez.

He says the cause of the fire is unknown. No injuries were reported.
