Palmview is making major changes to East Goodwin Road, with a grant covering the cost of the project.

Crews this week started installing swales on both sides of East Goodwin Road from Veterans Boulevard to Mile 2 Road.

The work is meant to better handle stormwater during heavy rains, like the flooding the city saw in 2019.

"They're going to widen the road slightly more than it currently is, and this will help with our EMS, fire department," Palmview Mayor Pro-Tem Cesar Pena Jr. said.

The Texas General Land Office is covering the $875,000 project.

Construction should wrap up by the end of the year.
