SOUTH PADRE ISLAND – Flooding has caused some problems for several South Padre Island beaches.

Elevated levels of fecal bacteria in the water, following last week’s rainfall, have been reported.

A professor with the University of Rio Grande Valley says certain types of bacteria, also know a gut flora, are being monitored.

He says although there is an elevation of bacteria in the water, levels are not to the point of concern yet.

KRGV’s Cecilia Gutierrez has more information.
