EDINBURG – Christmas trees are still displayed in many Rio Grande Valley homes.

Fire officials say trees that are not maintained could put your safety at risk.

Edinburg Deputy Fire Chief Ubaldo Perez says keeping the trees watered properly could preserve it and minimize the risk of becoming a fire hazard.

"If you've never seen a Christmas tree burn before, the fire is very, very intense. It’s very high temperature burning and it can cause a lot of damage obviously to your home,” says Perez.
