After five years of planning, the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation has officially opened eBridge.

It's a resource center for entrepreneurs designed to help them put their business plan into motion.

"That's how the impact will be for our community. Is having an entrepreneur take their idea and scale it, so they can employ. They can be a part of our community," President and CEO of the corporation Cori Pena said.

In partnershipt with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, resources provided through eBridge will help entrepreneurs with everything, from acquiring an office space to mentorship to finding investors.

The idea behind eBridge was originally to help support startups in Brownsville and bring new business and jobs to the city.

"Ideally we'd love them to stay in Brownsville, but it's a success if they can actually scale and go to another region," Pena said.

eBridge is already helping 25 startup companies, and Future Sqc is one of them.

"One of the ideas was to come to the United States, so our main business is related for the software of the manufacturing. This is a big place for the manufacturing of the region," Business Development Manager for Future Sqc Eduardo Cerda said.

With the support through eBridge Future Sqc was able to expand their business from Monterrey to Brownsville.

"The eBridge has put together a very interesting training. So with different positions for the business side for the marketing side," Cerda said.

eBridge is open to anyone who has a business idea. Initial assistance is free, and businesses will have to pay for an incubation membership.

"A lot of tools for a person to help companies like us that they can help you out with so many tiny things that you need to understand like patents, like understanding of the little things," Cerda said.
