Steve Guerra projected to win Cameron County judge's race
Brownsville, TX (KRGV) — Cameron County voters have cast their ballots, and the unofficial results show Democrat Steve Guerra is the new county judge.
Guerra ran against Republican Mauro Garza for the seat. Unofficial results show, Guerra obtained 65,843 votes, or 67%, and Garza obtained 32,584 votes, or 33%.
The Cameron County judge race has no incumbent after current judge Eddie Trevino Jr. lost his primary bid in a runoff in May.
Guerra is an entrepreneur and spent the last eight years on the board at the Port of Brownsville and the last four as its chairman.
"I think it’s important to ask the people of Cameron County to vote for the person with experience. I’m the only one that brings experience in this race. I’m ready to work for all of Cameron County. And so I ask humbly for the people to come out and vote for the most qualified position," Guerra said.
All votes are unofficial until they've been certified.
