San Juan, TX (KRGV) — The Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle is preparing to welcome people for Day of the Dead on Sunday, Nov. 1.

The church will keep its normal schedule with seven masses on Sunday and two masses on Monday. The basilica expects 14,000 people on Sunday.

"We all have lost someone to death… so that's the day we all pray for them. We remember them throughout the year, but on that day it is a sentiment to pray for the dead," Father Jorge Gomez, rector of the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle said.

The basilica also set up an ofrenda inside for Day of the Dead. The first mass on Sunday is at 7 a.m.
