Weslaco, TX (KRGV) — Unidos Contra la Diabetes of the RGV is hosting two free events this November aimed at helping residents navigate healthy eating and manage chronic illness through the holiday season.

The holiday season is fast approaching, which can mean eating more than usual, Unidos Contra la Diabetes CEO Moises Arjona Jr. said.

The group says many insurance providers are dropping obesity drugs.

“So what we're seeing is going to be an increase of Type 2 diabetes or unmanaged because they don't have the GLP-1s to help reduce that A1C if their insurance is not covering it anymore,” Arjona said. “And if you didn't make any healthy modifications to your lifestyle, then we're going to have a problem.”

Unidos Contra la Diabetes will hold a free health fair on Nov. 10, 2026, at the South Texas College campus in Weslaco. The annual diabetes conference will be on Nov. 12, 2026, at the DHR Health Conference Center off McColl Road.
