Brownsville Lopez missed the playoffs last year due to injuries at key positions.

However, those injuries allowed 14 sophomores to step up and see more playing time on the field. Now, those very same players come back for their junior season with more experience under their belt, adding depth to a team that is ready to compete for a playoff spot in the restructured district 15-5A division II. 

"We got 8, 10, 12 players that are very solid and they contribute and that's going to lead us to be pretty balanced on both sides of the ball," Brownsville Lopez head football coach Shaun Tarantola said. "Expect us to be physical on both sides of the ball and expect us to play really solid defense that's going to set up our offense this year."

"We're going to do the best that we can as possible," senior offensive tackle Juan Armendariz added. "I know last season we didn't have the expectations that we have. We lost to teams that we felt we shouldn't have and last year we had a lot of injuries. This year we're healthy."

Brownsville Lopez begins the season on August 28th as the away team against Brownsville Rivera. The team takes on Gregory-Portland on the road on September 25th to kick off district play. The Lobos conclude district action at home on November 5th when they host Donna.
