A woman died after she and one man were found with gunshot wounds to the head in the backyard of a home near Mission, according to Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra.

The unidentified individuals were hospitalized Wednesday in critical condition after they were found at around 7:15 p.m. by deputies conducting a welfare check at a home on the 2500 block of Jessica Avenue near Mission.

Guerra identified the individuals as a married couple and said the man remains hospitalized.

“There’s no threat to the community. Investigation is ongoing,” Guerra added.
