The PSJA Independent School District will have safety kits at every classroom in the upcoming school year.
Each kit has items from the Stop the Bleed program, which is designed to prevent further blood loss from a victim suffering a grave injury.
District leaders say they hope to never use those tools.
“But in the event of, we hope that we have a lot of individuals that are trained — not only our staff but our students as well,” district director of health services Sulema Solis said. “Teachers are instructed about traumatic injury response on how to apply a tourniquet.”
The 2,500 kits cost the district more than $100,000.
