Roma, TX (KRGV) — A Roma High School junior became the first Roma ISD student selected for the fully funded STARS at MIT Fly-In Program.
Regina Susana Hernandez was one of 23 selected from more than 8,000 applicants across the country. The three-day program took her to Boston, where she toured the campus and joined engineering workshops.
"I honestly had no expectations to be accepted to such prestige program obviously but honestly getting my acceptance it was such a surreal feeling," Hernandez said. "I want to encourage other students to like realize that like we’re from Roma. We’re from a small town and it is all possible. Like people might not see that, but it’s opportunities that we have but people are not aware of."
Now that she is back, Hernandez is working on creating a group to help other students apply.
