Roma Man Charged with Aggravated Kidnapping, Sexual Abuse of 11-Year-Old
EDINBURG – A man from Roma was arrested and charged with aggravated kidnapping and sexual abuse of an 11-year-old girl.
Through the course of the investigation, the Hidalgo County Major Crimes Unit identified the suspect as 36-year-old Abiel Martinez-Avalos.
The suspect met the victim on a social media application, Snapchat, claiming to be a 17-year-old boy.
The victim was threatened by the unknown male if she refused to meet him.
On Sept. 1, the minor met the man, who drove to a nearby parking lot in front of a building, where he sexually assaulted her.
Martinez was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Homer Jasso, where he was given a $1 million bond.
