Weslaco, TX (KRGV) — Students at the Texas A&M University Higher Education Center at McAllen are planning a free health fair for mothers and newborns in Weslaco.

The event, Haven of Hope, is set for Sunday, Nov. 8, 2026, at the Holy Family Birth Center in Weslaco from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Organizers aim to address what they see as a decline in access to health care, education, and basic necessities for mothers and newborns in the region.

"Especially in the colonias. In underserved areas, they don't have access to it, and… depending on their situation, whether a financial or geographical location, they may not have a car or have anyone to take them to any of their appointments," student Natalie Garcia said.

Students plan to distribute 100 maternal care packages with diapers, baby wipes, and socks for infants. Registration is not required.
