An investigation in underway after a 16-year-old male died after showing up to a Weslaco hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies with the sheriff’s office responded to the Valley Baptist Micro Hospital Thursday at around 6:18 p.m. after a 16-year-old male arrived with a gunshot wound to the chest “and was deceased,” the sheriff’s office stated in a social media post.

Investigators with the sheriff’s office are at the scene speaking with witnesses. 

In a tweet, the sheriff's office stated there is no threat to the public.
