Alton Police Department hosting Narcan training and warning signs workshop
The Alton Police Department wants more people to know how to respond to a drug overdose.
The department is hosting a free training Monday, Aug. 31, at the Alton Rec Center. Attendees will learn how to use Narcan and how to spot warning signs of an overdose.
Police say they have not seen an increase in opioid-related overdoses but are seeing overdoses tied to THC.
"So when they do overdose or they have an issue and EMS gets there, they ask them, 'well, what did you take?' Well, I took THC, but for all we know, it was something else and that's where the problems occur because you can't get to it fast enough," Alton police officer Hector Ayala said.
The department is also planning to install a Narcan dispensing machine at its public safety building.
