HARLINGEN – Multiple agencies responded to two separate accidents on the westbound lanes of Expressway 83 near Harlingen, according to Harlingen Police Sgt. Larry Moore.

The first accident, involving vehicle and an 18-wheeler, occurred near the Altas Palmas Road exit. Four people were sent to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Police then responded to another collision at the Stuart Place Road overpass after traffic backed up. An SUV hit the back end of an 18-wheeler. The driver of the SUV died.

The identity of the victim will not be released until next of kin is notified.

The section between Altas Palmas and Stuart roads is blocked off. Drivers are being rerouted and asked to find alternate routes.
