Brownsville Metro plans to expand free Uber ride program
Brownsville, TX (KRGV) — Brownsville Metro is getting ready to expand its free Uber ride program into northwest Brownsville after receiving a $50,000 grant.
Brownsville Metro said more people started using the service in areas without regular bus service. The program currently serves parts of southern Cameron County.
The grant will help add service in northwest Brownsville near Veterans Boulevard and the target area.
"Just for the month of September, we did get about 830 rides, so about an average 750 since the beginning of the fiscal year from 26," B-Metro Transit Manager Simon Ortiz said.
The city hopes to launch the new service area within the next two months.
