Hargill marks 100 years with celebration at community park
Hargill, TX (KRGV) — The city of Hargill will celebrate 100 years with a free event on Saturday, according to organizers.
The celebration will take place at the community park across from Hargill Elementary School.
The town's railroad station dates to 1926. At the start, Rio Farms brought new growers to the area interested in trying their hand in farming.
"When the train got here in '26 — all of that really also was just a boom for the town — there was discussion of this being one of the most important towns in the Valley because of its proximity to other people," Hargill Centennial Planning Committe member Sandy Pollock said.
Organizers said growers would come and go over the years because freezes hit their crops. Now, U.S. Citrus has recently grown its presence in the area.
