Edinburg, TX (KRGV) — The 16th annual Edinburg Cares Food Drive is underway and the city is asking for canned foods, microwavable items and volunteers.

Organizers hope to distribute 1,000 turkeys and food baskets this year. Recipients will be preselected.

Each basket will include 20 to 30 nonperishable items.

"We do need volunteers. We're looking at that beginning of the week, of the 16th through the 18t,h to start making those baskets for us. We have tons and tons of cans coming in, any type of support to come in and help sort. If they want to help, if, you know, donating as well, we can always use that. We always got to check for expiration dates as well," Edinburg Recreation Manager Anthony Davila said.

Deliveries start Nov. 21. For more information on donating or volunteering, click here.
