BROWNSVILLE – Cameron County law enforcement agencies are cracking down on animal abuse cases.

Officials say they’ve had a spike in animal cruelty cases in recent months.

As a result, law enforcement met at the Harlingen Emergency and Training Center to learn more about how to investigate these cases.

“Most of our officers down here are very good at investigating drug cases and your homicides and your other criminal cases,” says Cameron County District Attorney Luis Saenz, "but when it comes to animal cruelty cases, they're a specialized type of cases."

Officials brought in the Harris County assistant district attorney to lead the training.
