BROWNSVILLE – Cameron County voters will be voting on paper ballots this year.

County elections administrator Remi Garza said the county is currently in the process of deciding whether to use touch-screen voting machines.

He said the county determined voters have not had a high level of confidence in touch-screen voting in recent years.

In the meantime, they will remain using an old-style ballot for its voting population.

“I think you have to consider who your voting population is. Our 18 to 25-year-olds represent the smallest group of individuals who are voting in Cameron County,” he said. “Our voters are primarily in the 55 and 65 to 70 years of age and so they’re still familiar with the paper product and they’re comfortable with it.”

Election Day for municipalities and school districts in Cameron County is May 6.
