DPS partners with Edcouch-Elsa ISD to open new highway patrol station
The Texas Department of Public Safety opened a new highway patrol office in the city of Edcouch.
DPS held a Monday ribbon cutting for the new office, located at 200 N. Yellowjacket Dr. in Edcouch. The office sits on property owned by the Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District and was more than a year in the making.
The school district reached out and offered the location. Residents should expect to see more state troopers in the area.
"The Valley has grown a lot, so there is a need for us to create other highway patrol offices," DPS spokesperson Sgt. Maria Hernandez said. “It makes it easier for our troopers to be more available and have easier access and quicker response to some of our crashes or any incidents, especially here within the Delta area.”
Troopers at the new office will come from other stations across the Valley.
DPS said the new office represents a continued partnership between DPS and Edcouch-Elsa ISD and reinforces a shared commitment to school safety and security and to maintaining a safe learning environment for students and staff.
