DPS Seizes 561 Pounds of Marijuana Following Traffic Stop

WESLACO – The Texas Department of Public Safety seized more than 500 pounds of marijuana on Wednesday after a Texas Highway Patrol trooper pulled over a vehicle in Hidalgo County.

A trooper conducted a traffic stop on a Ford F-150 traveling eastbound on I-2 in La Joya for a traffic violation.

The driver evaded law enforcement and was subsequently arrested on I-2 near Inspiration Road in Mission.

Troopers discovered 51 bundles of marijuana, totaling 561 pounds worth more than $3 million inside the bed and cab of the truck.

Beatriz De La Garza, 24, of Rio Grande City, was arrested for possession of marijuana and evading arrest with a motor vehicle.
