ZAPATA - A Rio Grande Valley father said the shooting in Fronton on Wednesday makes him relive his son’s death.

Oscar Eduardo Garza died at Falcon Lake last December. He was on a boat with his friend fishing on the lake.

After an exchange of words with a group of people on another boat, a shooting ensued. Garza was fatally hit.

His father, who asked not to be identified, couldn’t tell us much about the ongoing investigation. He said he’s been kept in the dark as far as information goes. Now, he wants answers more than ever.

The father said his son didn’t deserve to die the way he did.

“What hurts the most is the way in which he was taken away from me. He didn’t deserve to die like that,” he said.

Garza’s father said he’s visited the lake numerous times in spite of risks. He said he’s witnessed illegal activity in the area.

“When I go there I feel more at peace. I feel like he gives me tranquility,” he said.

But he said he quickly starts questioning the incident.

“I’ve talked to investigators, but they don’t tell me anything. I want to know a lot of things, but I don’t know whether they can tell or not,” he said.

He hopes to one day have closure and know exactly what his son lived through during his final moments.
