Funding approved for new equipment for fire departments in La Joya, Sullivan City
Firefighters in La Joya and Sullivan City are getting new protective gear.
The money already approved for the equipment is coming from the Hidalgo County Emergency Services District #6.
Those departments will also get an air tank refill system.
"That's a long-term investment, and the good thing is that not only will fire departments benefit from it, but any surrounding departments that don't have a cascade system are going to be able to stop by and refill their tanks instead of having to drive farther and longer," Hidalgo County Emergency Services District #6 Board Member Janie Gaytan said.
Altogether, the departments received about $80,000 for the gear.
