The public had the opportunity to see the voting process for themselves as the Hidalgo County Elections Department tested out their voting machines ahead of the March primary elections.

The goal of the Saturday testing was to be transparent about the accuracy of the voting process.

“This is part of the law,” Hidalgo County Elections Department Elections Administrator Hilda Salinas said. “It states in the Texas election code that we do have to test all the voting machines for logic and accuracy to make sure everything as you make your selections are correct.”

This hybrid-system of voting prints all your selections on a ballot paper that you then take to a scanner to submit your selections.

Salinas says there are 30 early voting polling locations in the county.

There will be 67 polling locations on Election Day.

Those planning to register to vote, or need to make any changes to your voter registration, can call the Hidalgo County Elections Department at 956-318-2570.

Monday, Feb. 5, is the deadline to register to vote.
