LA JOYA – The Juarez-Lincoln Huskies have fond memories of last year’s regional championship, the first in school history.

This year’s bunch is headed back to the regional tournament with several new players, including forward Eddie Fonseca.

The freshman has scored in every playoff game, including the game-winning goal in a 3-2 victory over Economedes.

“He’s been playing well,” said coach Victor Ramos. “We were not sure if he was going to continue with his success in the playoffs. He scored four goals against Del Rio and he proved again in the playoffs against Economedes.”

“It’s great,” said Jerry Reyes. “We have good sophomores and the freshman that helps us make the team stronger. We have a great team.”

The Huskies have a 30-5 record this year.

Several key seniors are back. Forward Jerry Reyes leads the team in scoring. Midfielders Manuel “El Moso” Castrejon and Leonardo Pruneda help start the attack.

Juarez-Lincoln plays Reagan Friday in the regional semifinals.

“We’re very aggressive,” said Ramos. “We put a lot of pressure on the opponents. I believe those will be the keys to be successful in tomorrow’s game.”

“We’ve been working hard since the first day of practice and we’re just going to keep going forward,” said Leonardo Pruneda.

Friday’s game is at 7pm at the Blossom Athletic Center in San Antonio.
