Immigration Impacting Load at Hidalgo Co. Jail
EDINBURG – Immigration is impacting the Hidalgo County jail, according to county officials.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra says with the growth of the county, naturally, crime rates rose.
He says the increase is pushing the local facility beyond capacity. Now, they’re scrambling to find a place to house them.
Typically, overflow is rerouted, but people in custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement are also saturating surrounding county jails.
