WESLACO – The IRS is encouraging taxpayers to check the amount withheld from their paychecks.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act created several new rules, including increasing the standard deduction and increasing the child tax credit, which could change the amount due when tax season arrives.

IRS spokesman Raphael Tulino says people can check the withholding amount with the online IRS tax withholding calculator.

Tulino says to have pay stubs and previous tax returns handy when using this tool.
