Jury selection enters week 5 in capital murder trial of slain San Benito police lieutenant

Jury selection entered its fifth week in the capital murder trial of Rogelio Martinez.

Martinez is charged in the 2023 shooting death of San Benito Police Lt. Milton Resendez. Jury selection began Aug. 11 with a pool of roughly 450 potential jurors.

The Cameron County court clerk said if all goes well a jury could be seated by Friday, Sept. 18.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Martinez.
