La Grulla, TX (KRGV) — Water is running again for customers around La Grulla, but the city says a boil water notice remains in effect because of work at its water plant.

Some customers went without water for days. Now they have to boil the water before they can drink it, wash their hands or brush their teeth.

Hilda Rodriguez, who lives north of La Grulla, said she was without water for three days while the city repaired issues at its water plant.

Rodriguez said she is keeping water in pots around her kitchen because she worries the water could go out again.

“I'm afraid that if I throw them out then the water goes out again,” Rodriguez said.

The repairs began last Thursday. On social media, where the city is corresponding with the community, the city said the repairs were completed yesterday.

The city said recent challenges with water service are tied to an ongoing transition to upgraded infrastructure. The city still has not said why the repairs were needed.

“Well I just want them to fix the old pipes so that we don't have to go through this again,” Rodriguez said. “I filled up all four of my igloos thermos and ice chest."

The city manager declined interview requests from Channel 5 News and said he would post a statement on social media.

Channel 5 News is also waiting to hear back from the mayor.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality says it is looking into questions about how often water is cut to La Grulla and how many boil water notices the city has issued.
