WESLACO – Pharmacies across the Rio Grande Valley are seeing a shortage of generic Tamiflu.

The name brand treatment is still in stock; both are used to treat the influenza virus.

Jesus Saenz has been a pharmacist for 44 years.

He explains why six of his pharmacies are seeing a demand in generic Tamiflu.

“What's unusual is that we are already coming into the early days of June and usually we see a lot of Tamiflu brand and generic being dispensed early October,” says Saenz.

He attributes the shortage to an extended flu season this year.
