Made in the 956: Phoenix Warriors book written by domestic violence survivors to help others heal
A new book called Phoenix Warriors shares 12 stories from women in the Rio Grande Valley who survived domestic violence.
The stories focus on resilience, healing and hope, and the women say they want others to know they are not alone.
“It's about overcoming, it's about going through the hardest times in our lives and finding forgiveness,” survivor and author Daniela Zuniga said.

The women are part of Angels of Love, a nonprofit that helps provide resources to people experiencing domestic violence. Through their stories, they hope to reach people who may be afraid to ask for help or leave a violent situation.
“I've really come a long way that I'm able to share my story, not just for the Valley, not just for women and men, but for our children. Our children are the next generation who are able to bring a stop to this, bring awareness, bring prevention,” survivor and author Leanna Gutierrez said.
Each woman featured in the book is from the Valley. They say that makes the message more personal.
The authors hope book sales will help open a shelter called the Angel House to help others find a way forward.
