Weslaco, TX (KRGV) — A 32-year-old man is in custody following a stabbing at an H-E-B in Weslaco, police said.

Reyman Armenta is facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the investigation, according to a spokesperson with the Weslaco Police Department.

The stabbing happened at the H-E-B at 1004 N. Texas Blvd. at around 9:09 p.m. Wednesday.

Weslaco police officers who responded to the scene found a man with a neck injury. The suspect had left before police arrived.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition. Police believe the attack was random and unprovoked.

According to police, Armenta was taken into custody without incident at his residence near San Vicente Norte Street in Weslaco on Thursday shortly after 2 a.m.

The Weslaco Police Department said there is no ongoing threat to the community, and the investigation remains active.

The stabbing caused the store to close early on Wednesday night. A statement from H-E-B that was issued on Thursday morning confirmed the incident occurred at the store.

“No partners were injured. We are working closely with authorities in their investigation. At H-E-B, the safety of our customers and partners is our top priority,” the statement reads. “We work diligently to monitor inside and outside our stores to make the shopping experience as safe and secure as possible.”
