MCALLEN – The city of McAllen is reiterating their position on sanctuary cities saying that McAllen is not on that list.

Addressing the humanitarian respite center, director of communications for the city of McAllen, Xochitl Mora, said the area is not a safe haven.

People that pass through the respite center have already been processed by law enforcement.

Mora addressed the city’s position on the border.

“Considering the position of the current presidential administration wanting a border wall, what McAllen is hoping for is instead a border fence that reinforces the levee system along the river banks that would strengthen and secure that area better while also providing border security,” the director said.

Mora said the city is still waiting on specifics outlining what categorizes a sanctuary city, but for now they do not consider themselves to be one.
