SAN BENITO - An international search is underway for a San Benito family that went missing last week.

San Benito police said a woman and her two children may be in danger. They’re asking the public to help them track down their whereabouts.

Investigators believe the children, 11-year-old Alondra Sanchez Rosales and her 15-year-old brother Brandon Rosales Sanchez, went missing along with their mother, Juana Juarez Rosales, and her boyfriend, Christian Osvaldo Lopez.

Galvan said the children were under the couple’s care. He said they believe the family is in Mexico.

San Benito Police Chief Michael Galvan said the ports of entry and Mexican government were notified, and are currently aiding in the investigation.

“Allegations came in of possible abuse and CPS went and made contact with the family to explain the allegations of abuse. An investigation has been open against the family,” he said.

Lopez has two charges pending of endangering a child and injury to a child. The police chief said those charges have nothing to do with the two children who are missing.

However, law enforcement is concerned the two minors might be in danger given Lopez’s record and allegations of child abuse.

“If you haven’t done anything wrong then why leave with the kids?” Galvan questioned.

Child Protective Services South Texas sector spokesperson John Lennon said police doesn’t intervene in cases unless it’s necessary.

“Whenever a CPS caseworker feels that there is a safety issues or a danger issue involving family or safety, law enforcement will be contacted,” he said.

In this case, police were notified after the family failed to meet with an advocacy center. It was later noted the children had also missed school for several days.

“At the end of the day they’re going to look at things a little differently. Whereas law enforcement is going to ask the questions of did somebody break the law, whereas CPS is going to ask what can we do to help this family prove a safe environment for their children?” he explained.

Galvan said team effort will make the difference in finding the family and ensure the children’s safety. He urged the community to be on the lookout for the family.

The police chief also asked people to reach out to San Benito police if they have pictures or a picture of the family. He said it might help them and other agencies to identify the mother.

The family was last seen driving a white two-door cavalier with license plates TVF-367.
