La Joya Independent School District says calls to the transportation help desk have dropped.

The help desk was launched this school year and was created to help families adjust to changes made to the district's bus system.

The district said the help desk has handled about 3,500 calls, including helping parents find bus stops and pickup times, update their contact information and learn how to use the district's StopFinder app.

"Our average time of help has been about eight minutes. Our average wait time has been about one minute. So, we're extremely excited about that," La Joya ISD Chief Operations Officer S.B. Pierson said.

The district said call volume has fallen from about 1,200 to 1,300 calls a day at the start of school to fewer than 100 a day now.

The help desk is expected to stay open for at least another couple of weeks.

The district said it will keep the help desk running until calls drop enough for its regular transportation staff.
